Located in the centre of Amsterdam, this museum can witness some of the great masterpieces by Rembrandt. You will see his paintings showing his political views and how he expresses himself as an artist through portraits.
Manuel Alvarez Bravo Studio Museum
This tiny but cosy place is located in a lovely neighbourhood next to the EYE Film Institute Netherlands. This studio was Manuel Alvarez Bravo's working space from 1950 until he died in 2002. The gallery frequently changes its collection, which makes it worth visiting! Tropenmuseum is among my favourite museums, especially if we look at their most famous exhibit, the giant birdcage with live tropical birds inside it! It looks like a scene from a Disney movie – it's very colourful and cheerful. The museum is also well known for its extensive art, culture and history concerning people worldwide.
It's not only about art when you visit this museum, but you will learn more about religions and political history regarding these countries. It's guaranteed to broaden your knowledge of different cultures! Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
This museum allows you to see René Magritte's famous work "The Treachery of Images", one of his most famous paintings. He was able to perfectly combine surrealism with symbolism in his works while creating a fantastic composition at the same time!
This giant building houses many exhibitions from both national and international artists. One of their recent exhibitions is "Cooper Hewitt", an associate curator at the museum in New York City. The exhibition in Amsterdam revolves around fashion, textile and also accessories from the 17th–20th century!

Different English Speaking Art Jobs in Amsterdam
Artist Assistant at the National Gallery
Any artist would love to be an assistant at such a prestigious museum where Vincent van Gogh has his room! Being surrounded by hundreds of other masterpieces is something that every artist should experience! Architectural photographer.
Every day you get to photograph buildings/architecture which has hundreds of years of history! Simply amazing. One of the best things about this job is that you'll see tons of cities and countries while working on your latest project. To apply for this job, you should have experience as an architectural photographer, but if you don't, they will teach you everything you need to know! You also get an excellent salary and many vacation days!
Being an Interior art designer
This is one of the most creative jobs in Amsterdam (and throughout Europe) because there's always something new happening, some new furniture, some new decoration, etc. It can be very challenging, and it plays well!
Artist assistant at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
Amsterdam is full of opportunities for artists – you need to be creative, passionate and willing to work hard. This museum offers an excellent starting salary and additional benefits like a free ticket for any event (concerts, theatre plays etc.) at the museum. Besides, you also get to enjoy excellent exhibitions as well as being surrounded by hundreds of masterpieces!
An artist in Amsterdam should try working at museums like the Stedelijk Museum or Van Gogh Museum, which will pay your rent and offer many opportunities for personal growth. These jobs are very hard to get even if you have some experience – so keep trying until you succeed.
But how to get a job as an artist if you have no experience and/or education?
In Amsterdam, you will find the same kind of jobs as back home or anywhere else in Europe – wherever you come from. The best way to start is by applying with your portfolio, even if you are not qualified for the job and/or have no experience.
When you start by applying directly with your CV+portfolio, it's up to you to convince the manager or art director that you will do an excellent job for them. It's all about your enthusiasm and attitude – in this situation, they don't ask how much money should be paid for this position.
Suppose you think you need more formal education than what you have from your own experience. In that case, I recommend going to the AKI Academy of Visual Arts, which is close to Leidseplein square in Amsterdam city centre. The school offers various courses like glass-blowing, painting and ceramics but also media design and graphic design.
The minimum salary is E900 per month in Amsterdam, but if you do a good job, they will pay you much more than that.
Working hours can be from full-time to part-time, and the conditions are not as strict as regular office jobs. Weekends are typical for artists and musicians since they have always been free for all. The best way to start working as an artist is by contacting the nearest club or pub directly and ask them about employment – mostly, you don't need any experience or CV/resume when applying for short term gigs like opening parties etc. And then it's up to your attitude, enthusiasm and how much fun can you bring with your ideas!
